Statement on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II

For almost all of us, Queen Elizabeth II has been a constant – a reassuring presence, a rock of stability and the most enduring public figure in our lives.

Her death is a sad and momentous day for all of us in Gippsland, Australia and around the world.  We pause and remember the Queen for her life of service, grace, resilience, calm, wise counsel and above all, duty.

An extraordinary 70 years on the throne, she has been a great friend and a regular visitor to Australia.   That few Gippslanders will remember her visit to our region in 1954 is a testament to her remarkable longevity.

She was also a mother, grandmother and great grandmother and I extend my condolences to His Royal Highness, King Charles III and the extended Royal family.

We have lost someone special, a part of all of lives.

Rest In Peace, Your Majesty.
