Rising criminal activity and reports of anti-social behaviour have reignited calls for the former Sale police station to be demolished.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien said he had been calling on the Labor State Government to finalise the sale of the old site for several years.
“The old Sale police station is an ideal piece of land on Lake Guthridge and close to the centre of town, but its disposal by the Government has been delayed now for a very long time,” Mr O’Brien said.
“The most recent advice I have received from the Allan Labor Government is that negotiations have been ‘ongoing’ since 2016.
“Meanwhile the site has become not just an eyesore, but a haven for anti-social behaviour with neighbouring property owners reporting acts of vandalism at all hours of the day and night.”
Mr O’Brien said he had even had reports of neighbours having bags of human faeces thrown into their yards.
“It is deplorable to think that residents are being subjected to this while the Allan Labor Government enters its ninth year of ‘negotiations’.
“The Allan Labor Government needs to get on with the job as the old Sale police station site has become an eyesore and a wasted community asset.
“If a deal isn’t reached soon to sell the old police station it should be knocked down or considered for alternative government or community use.
“The Allan Labor Government can’t manage negotiations, can’t manage community assets and the wider Sale community is paying the price.”
