The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien is encouraging local volunteer groups to put their hand up for a share in $3.55 million to help protect or improve our local environment.
Mr O’Brien said grants of up to $20,000 are available to local environmental volunteer groups for projects aiming to enhance or protect natural assets such as native vegetation, native fauna, waterways, wetlands and soils.
“These grants are a crucial source of funding for many of our local volunteer groups and their efforts to improve or preserve our environment,” Mr O’Brien said.
“In 2024 the Yarram Yarram Landcare Network received $20,000 to fund its Revitalisation and Community Nursery Project while Woodside, Cowwarr and Binginwarri Landcare groups received $500 respectively.”
Mr O’Brien highlighted that there are three streams of funding on offer that provide up to $20,000. These are;
- on-ground works
- community education and engagement activities
- group/network development activities.
There are also grants of up to $500 to assist with costs such as insurance, incorporation and operational needs.
For more information on these grants including what may be funded and how to apply visit environment.vic.gov.au/grants.
Mr O’Brien encouraged Gippsland South based volunteer groups wishing to make an application to contact him at danny.obrien@parliament.vic.gov.au to arrange a letter of support.
